Did anyone watch the Academy Awards last night? All of it, or part of it? I have to admit, I only watched a little bit. It's just too long! I think this is the first year that I had seen all 5 of the movies that were nominated, even before the nominations were announced. You can go to my past posts to see what I thought about each one, but briefly; 'Atonement' I liked it, but thought it was really sad and depressing, gave it 3 diamonds. 'Juno' I liked it more than I thought I would, liked the ending, gave it 3 diamonds. 'Michael Clayton' I guess I didn't review this one, I think I saw it before I started my blog. I really liked it, it was great, gives you hope that some people still do the right thing, Jeff & I both give it 4 diamonds. 'There will be blood' I thought it was interesting but sad, thought Daniel Dey Lewis was amazing, gave it 2 1/2 diamonds. And 'No Country for Old Men' Didn't like it all that much, it was too bloody and dark, gave it the lowest rating of all 5 that were nominated; 1 1/2 diamonds. So, I wish I had taken the time to post my predictions, I totally would have guessed 'No Country...' because it seems it always works that way, the ones that I don't like win. I often tell Jeff that if the critics like a movie, than I'll probably hate it, if they hate it, I most likely will like it!
I wish that 'Lars and the Real Girl' would have won for the writing of an original screenplay. Juno won that one, which would have been my second choice. 'The Golden Compass' won visual effects and I thought 'Transformers' should have taken it.

ALl of the movies were R... I didn't see one of them. In fact, I think this was the worst year for the Oscars. Love that writer's strike. I'm with you, I think it was too long and I didn't like it very much this year. They seriously need to bring back Billy Crystal, don't you think?!!!!! We at least celebrated the evening with some yummy boston creme pie. that was the extent of it. We got bored and then watched Transformers---and fell asleep. Seriously, we're exciting people.
I watched the full thing and it was okay. If you check out my blog you'll see I go to this very cool party ever year and so it's fun watching it with people and see who won each category because we all guess and the one with the most wins....wins! Usually people will get like 20 or so right but on Sunday the highest number correct was only 12 so it definately was an "off" year. Really the only movie I had seen was JUNO and I was glad that it won best original screenplay. Oh, and I'm soooo glad that "Falling Slowly" from "Once" won for best song, I hear that was a great movie but never saw it but I love the music. Anyway, I don't miss Billy Crystal hosting the Oscars because I don't remember back when he did but we could use some more humor than seeing almost every star almost trip on the waxed floor. That was pretty funny though!
We recorded it, which meant we could fast forward through the boring parts. It took us about an hour to see the stuff we wanted to see, which was great! I thought John Stewart was great. He is one funny guy.
I'm curious about the movies that were nominated. The only one I saw that they talked about was Juno, and I absolutely love, love, loved it! I want Ellen Page to be my best friend. The other ones looked pretty interesting. I love Daniel Day-Lewis, but his movie looked like such a MAN show.
Anyway, thanks for always keeping us up to date on what's out there!
We tivoed it as well, and saw the parts we wanted to see, which wasn't much. I am going to go out on a limb here and say that I nearly threw the remote at the TV when Juno won for best original screenplay. I saw it based on the glowing recommendations of so many people I trust (you included), but I was absolutely horrified by the dialogue in the first half hour of the show. I'm really not a prude, seriously, I can handle a lot, but come ON! I feel sad that society is dumbing down to the point that trailer trash talk is heralded as great writing. Okay, the story was poignant but the dialogue, people, did anyone listen to what they were saying???? It was beyond crude! It was yucky yucky yucky. And just to see what type of person wrote it, well, let's just say her blog is worse than the dialogue in Juno. Somehow I'm not excited about celebrating that.
But I still love and admire all of you who loved it so much. I'm just sayin'...
